Preliminary Task
What worked well:
- There are a large variety of different camera shots, including a pan left to right shot, POV shot and a Mid Long Shot.
- The story boarding of this clip was very good, in addition to this the actual acting in the clip was also very good.
- The editing, particularly at the end of the clip works very well. And overall brings a nice ending to the clip.
What didn't work so well:
- Although there were a variety of camera shots, some shots didn't work as effectively as planned, meaning that occasionally the footage looked 'unsteady'.
- Some of the continuity editing didn't work due to the problem with lighting whilst filming.
- Sound also turned out to be a problem as there was large amounts of background noise that we weren't able to fade out in the editing of the clip. Therefore this caused the overall finish to be more tacky rather than a clean cut finish.
- Another problem is the cutting of clips. In some cases clips were either left too long or cut to early, which causes a 'jumpy' affect in the footage.
How to Improve:
- Spend more time filming. This short clip took 30 minutes to film, therefore in some cases caused the footage to turn out 'rushed'.
- To work on camera technique more time should be spent 'playing around' with all the different features of the camera so that we know all the possible things we could do with it in order to make the footage more interesting.
- In some cases the editing is too raw, little things like colour grading could have been added to the clip so that it would look more professional in the end result.
- The overall sound in the clip needs to have more time spent on it, although free sound.org has a large variety of sound clips, sound must be gathered from a variety of different resources so that we can assure that we will get the best sound available to us that will suit that part of the clip perfectly.
As the planning and filming was done very quickly in one lesson, I think the end product was very respectable. I think our analysis of the clip shows we need a little bit more time to practise with the cameras, just to get to grips with everything that is possible to achieve, something we can start work on at the woods.
